If you’ve read my post about the Purifying Charcoal Mask, then you probably already know the benefits from using the mask. It purifies, cleans and extracts all your impurities in a single use. But how?
This mask is made from activated charcoal derived from a Japanese Oak Tree that is renowned for its hardness. The wood from the oak tree is heated at 1000 degrees centigrade, and then rapidly cooled in the earth under sand and soil.
Activated charcoal sucks out bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of your skin. This allows you to get that flawless complexion. Since charcoal is not metabolized or absorbed by the body, it can be used to treat poisonous bites and disinfect wounds. The reason why it’s so popular in facial masks is because it can adsorb harmful substances thousands of times more than its own mass.
Activated charcoal is used in water facilities to extract impurities and grab contaminates in water supplies. This is why it works the same way on your skin, just like a magnet. If you’re looking for a step-by-step instruction of how to use the mask for maximum results, I’ve included those below. If you have some time to spare, check out Beautycounter’s live Facebook Purifying Charcoal Mask Q & A!
Prep and wash your skin with the Charcoal Cleansing Bar to after you’ve removed your makeup. This bar can be used daily, with or without the mask.
Once you’ve cleaned your face with the bar, make sure your face is slightly damp (not wet) for easier mask application.
Squeeze a small amount of the mask on your palm, and use your fingers to spread it on your face in one motion, starting from the center of the face towards the back. You only need a thin application, so there’s no need to put on a thick layer.
If you want an easier application (or maybe you want to keep your hands clean), use the Flat Complexion Brush and apply it in the same direction as noted above.
Allow the mask to dry for about 10 minutes.
If you’re looking to reactivate the mask and leave it on for a little longer, spray your face with the Nourishing Rosewater Mist. Just a few pumps is all you need!
Soak a Cleansing Cloth in warm water, and wring it out. Press the cloth lightly on your face to reactivate the mask, and then gently wipe the mask away from the front of your face towards the back. Do not wipe in circular or downwards motions, otherwise you’ll stretch your skin and give yourself wrinkles!
Repeat steps 1 through 3 once or twice a week, depending on your skin type.
Please note, the mask only contains 0.4 percent of salicylic acid in the whole bottle, so it’s safe to use for women that are pregnant and preteens (medical researchers recommend not using anything over 2 percent for those that are pregnant or very young). However, always check with your doctor or dermatologist if you’re ever concerned. You can also always do a spot test if you have severe skin conditions that are extremely sensitive.
